Covid-19 and Exercise

COVID getting you ‘locked-down’?
Did you know that exercise can help with the COVID blues and get your mental health back on track?
It’s not uncommon to hear friends or family say – oh well, I’ve put on a few COVID kilos!
But what is important is why?
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the average Australian has been exercising less than usual. The current WHO (World Health Organisation) guidelines state that we should be aiming for 150 minutes (or 2.5 hours) of exercise per week.
Exercise is important for maintaining overall wellbeing and helps to release hormones which can improve our mood and give us better sleep!
There are links between regular exercise and controlling mood, improving self-esteem, and boosting the immune system. Additionally, exercise is a fantastic way of socialising with others including family, friends or other members of the community. Exercise can be done indoors, outdoors, or even at home if you prefer. The options when it comes to exercise are endless!
So, you might be thinking “how do I get started?”
Well, a consultation with our friendly team at Coastal Physiotherapy can help! Here at Coastal Physiotherapy we can work with you to create a tailored exercise program to match your goals. Our accredited Exercise Physiologist’s and Physiotherapists are here to help!
In the meantime, here are some handy ways to sneak in a few ‘exercise snacks’ during the day.
1. 10 x Sit to stands from your chair
2. Back stretches on a yoga mat
